OTD and Industry Partners Promote Maryland at 2017 SYTA Conference

Rich Gilbert, Travel Trade Sales Manager, OTD, and a contingent of Maryland tourism industry leaders traveled to the Student & Youth Travel Association (SYTA) annual conference in Albuquerque, NM, to promote the state’s student travel products and services to lay the groundwork for SYTA’s 2018 conference in Baltimore. SYTA’s annual conference brings more than 1,000 attendees representing tour operators, school groups and destination marketers.

Gilbert held individual meetings with more than 40 tour operators and met with nearly 100 groups over the four-day conference. With a single bus producing a potential $10,000 per day impact on the local tourism economy, these operators represent lucrative tourism contracts. Baltimore representatives sponsored the closing night party with a 1950s “Hairspray”- themed event featuring Maryland foods. Hosting SYTA in partnership with Baltimore will offer an opportunity to showcase Maryland as a premier student tourism destination.
